Our 2018 book was inspired by the fact that while yearbooks generally cover the "finished product" of events & organizations, things like practices and preparations are rarely included – hence "Behind the Scenes". Once we had a conceptual concept in place, that led to developing movie-inspired visual concepts while consciously avoiding the utilization of any obvious or cliché imagery.
Instead, we played visually with the idea of "uncovering" the behind-the-scenes content on each spread, and taking the lead from various DVD-inspired bonus features for the development of our modules. Each spread in the book included its own "credits roll" as our method of listing out who was in each photo as well as which staff members took the photos, wrote the stories, and laid out the pages.
While visually it's not my favorite book, I'm still very happy with the overall concept of the book. A particular highlight of this book for me turned out to be the parody movie posters that were created to highlight the section division pages throughout the book. We even had fun with the end-ages of the book: in the front, we included an illustration parodying the Universal Studios intro tag (including a QR code to the music to add to the experience), and in the back, we had our own "post-credits" sequence.
