Junior Achievement (JA) is a nonprofit organization that aims to educate & inspire young people about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness by providing practical, hands-on learning experiences for students ranging from elementary school through high school. JA programs are designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to succeed in the modern economy.
In the spring of 2021, JA of Northwest Ohio (based in Toledo)was looking for a way to visually represent the variety of programs that they offered to K-12 students as well as the way those programs prepared the students for success post-graduation from high school. In the end, after several rounds of discussion & revision, we landed on the map to the left, with the pre-graduation programs filling the left side of the page and the post-grad options available to students represented on the right.
In summer 2023, JANWO reached back out for a new round of revisions (including the addition of a “gap year” representation in the bottom-right).
You can see the previous iteration of the illustration below, as well as a timelapse video of the map being created.
