Theatre Poster Design

I've always loved live theatre, and poster design gave me a way to combine that interest with illustration, typography, and visual storytelling. During my years at Jesuit Dallas, I designed posters and programs for more than 50 productions, while occasionally stepping into other roles including set design and directing.

I also spent six seasons creating poster campaigns for Theatre Three and two seasons working with Contemporary Theatre of Dallas. For the professional theatres, the challenge was bigger than designing an individual poster: each season needed a visual concept that could connect eight to ten very different shows while still giving each production its own identity.

The work below includes two of my favorite Theatre Three season concepts, along with selected posters from my years at Jesuit.

Theatre Three’s 2010-2011 Season

For Theatre Three's 2010–2011 season, I developed a flat, stylized illustration style that could stretch across a wide range of productions while keeping the season visually connected. Each poster reduced its show to a simple visual idea, creating a series that felt cohesive without making the individual productions feel interchangeable.

Theatre Three’s 2014-2015 Season

For the 2014–2015 season, I returned to a simplified vector style but introduced a tighter color system. Each production received its own signature color, while every poster was limited to two shades of that color plus black and white. The constraint gave individual shows their own identities while making the full season feel unmistakably connected.

Jesuit Theatre Poster Highlights

The Jesuit posters gave me much more room to experiment. Across more than 50 productions, I moved between illustration, photography, typography, collage, and other styles depending on the personality of each show. The selections below are some of my favorites from that body of work.
